In the previous episode of the S2K project we found the first issues with the engine check light, in the mean time we have 2 major issues because in both cases it left me on foot, In the first case the alternator broke down at 2am on the highway, so alternator ko and 5 minutes later also the battery. Result? Had to call a tow truck! And that’s not all because this car is giving me lots of work because last night I jump in the car, try to start it up and the engine starter was ko, same result I was on foot and as you see I fit a new engine starter that I ordered on Ebay at a good price with quick and free shipping, Now that the car is fixed, I’m at ACME. If you remember they already worked on the Abarth and M3, now the S2000 is ready on the dyno because I’m very curious to see how much power this VTEC is able to produce after 10 years and 230.000km. As you see I din’t dedicate yet to the look of the car because first I give priority to the mechanics, as you see with these unexpected issues I late all the works. I didn’t even fit the Honda badge that I lost the day I bought the car but with the time we’re gonna fix it. Today we’re gonna discover how much power the engine produces but next steps I wanna make a detailing, repaint the bumpers, wrap, wheels, we’re on the right road to make the S2000 shine! In the previous episode I pushed the engine on the Moncenisio pass, amazing place and there I realized the engine, despinte having so many miles and years it still had lots of power to offer I’m very curious and I feel like the engine produces lots of power. I’m optimistic because I feel like it has good power, here we also have a carbon air intake and here not its stock headers but from Negan Racing, so now let’s jump onboard, start the warm engine, the dyno and test it! Flatout! Once the car hit the redline I engage the neutral Right, here’s the result! Here’s shown on tv. Here’s the torque and power, we did 5 launches, the last one has shown the best numbers because max.power is 230,5hp and 187,1nm If we take the average of all launches, we have 183,3nm and 223,3hp, compared to the power claimed by Honda, it’s not bad! As you see here we have a dropdown caused by the stock ECU software combined with the full HKS exhaust, it’d be good to remap to fill the gap of power. At 6000rpm when the VTEC kicks in the power starts to increase ’till 9150rpm! In order to enjoy VTEC you always need to keep it above 6000 because below that it’s not that powerful. 230.000km and we have reached close numbers from what Honda claimed. I wanna specify the test has been done with 100 octane fuel, behind the wheel the difference is big when you drive on 95 and then 98/100 so on such engine it’s better to go for 100 to unleash the maximum. I’m happy because several S2000 owners, as well as Matteo the owner of ACME, he has never seen a stock S2000 show the power claimed by Honda so virtually we can say the car didn’t lose power after all these years and kms! When I bought this car, some of you said ” What did you buy, so many kilometers! Throw it, it’s finished “, the dyno has shown the engine is not over A few pieces have broken down with the time but still, the car has 230.000km so it’s normal things tend to break down, Honestly, there’s more recent cars that tend to break down more often. Japanese are known for their reliability and built quality and I need to congratulate with Honda for the S2000. In the next steps – unpredictable issues aside – i’d like to start working on the body of the car. These issues late my schedule of the works to do on the car.
