Hi, Arek here, People often think, that to train with proper weights, you have to pump iron in the gym they think, that calisthenics exercises like push ups are only low weight exercises and it’s only worth doing them on holidays when you can’t train in the gym Today I will show you how much weight you press during doing push ups to look how much weight I push up press I will use ordinary bathroom scale I’m sure you have your one yourself This scale will show me the exact pressure on it during doing push ups You wil see pushing weight in following types of push ups: knee push ups with back bent (bad position) knee push ups with straight back (correct position) classic push ups pike push ups one arm push ups one arm push ups with legs toghether like in the book: “Convict Conditioning” Now my bodyweight is almost 82 kg (180 lb) every result I will show you will be divided by the mass of my body to see how much percentile (%) of my body mass is pressed during every type of push ups I will show you Let’s begin the measurement! Look at my Peruvian Hairless Dog Peri running in the background 😉 Push up measurements are done they aren’t very exact Margin of error can be about half to one kg (1 to 2 lb) but it will give you some glimpse into the weights you press during push ups Results for KNEE PUSH UPS WITH BENT BACK (IMPROPER POSITION)
In upper position I pressed on the scale 46,3 kg (102 lb) In downward position 34 kg (74 lb) it gives 56% of my bodymass pressed PROPER KNEE PUSH UP Upper position 44,4 kg (98 lb) Downward position 50 kg (110 lb) that means in the downward position I pressed 61% of my bodymass CLASSIC PUSH UP: Upper position: 58,8 kg (130 lb) Downward position 61 kg (134 lb) this is the highest value I pressed today It is 74% of my bodymass PIKE PUSH UP This is quite surprising Because I thought that I will press more than during classic push up but it showed otherwise Upper position: 49 kg (108 lb) Downward position: 56 kg (123 lb) It gives 68% body mass Now ONE ARM PUSH UPS! Upper position in ONE ARM PUSH UP with legs spreaded it is 57,5 kg (126 lb) Downward: 56,9 kg (125 lb) It gives 70% of my bodymass. ONE ARM PUSH UPS WITH LEGS TOGETHER (CONVICT CONDITIONING) Results are nearly identical Upper position: 56,4 kg (124 lb) Downward position 57 kg (125 lb) It is 70% of my Body Mass How can I comment this results? Look! During classic push ups You press about 75% of your body mass! During one arm push ups you press around 70% BM But you have to remember that it is ONE ARM push up You press this weight with only one arm
Show me somebody who weights around 80 kg (176 lb) like me And one arm press one barbell which weights 60 kg (132 lb) Because that is the wieght I pressed during one arm push ups I think that calisthenics doesn’t need to be shy Calisthenics is not some ugly gym sister! It’s different but maybe even better! Especially during one arm push ups You press more weight Than in the gym exercises What to do, when push ups and one arm push ups are to easy to you?
