LU Meter overview

Hi I’m Saverio from HoRNet plugins, today we want to introduce you our latest plugin, the LU Meter, the LU Meter is a quick handy meter that can be used to evaluate the loudness of a single track or a complete mix, it’s not a Ebu R128 meter because it only consider the momentarily loudness and both left and right channels but it still can be useful because it really gives you an insight of the loudness of your tracks this meter uses the same k filter that is in the front of standard loudness unit meter and it uses the same 400 milliseconds integration time of the momentary meter with this you can stick it on the single track or your complete master and complete main mix and you can have a look to how much the loudness of your track is and its a relative meter so the zero-point can be set to whatever you like by default is set to -23 loudness unit full scale, let’s jump into the GUI so we can see what every single function on the main part you have the two meters left and right and the scale is the same scale and same meters you can find an our of VU meter in fact this plugin is derived from that plugin and our ELM 128 meter then you have to gain section that is the the core of this plugin where you can set the desired level of loudness you want to reach by default is set to zero LU, the maximum peak protection and that actually make so that no signal can be higher than the level you choose here can be disabled if you want to go above 0 DB the gain knob that can be used to set the gain and it’s automatically set by the auto button here then you have the grouping feature that is found also on the vu meter that allows you to set many instance of this plug into one group and spread the gain or meter settings to every instance of the plugin to do that you have to trigger the specific button before enabling this gain button every plug-in on group one we received the setting specified here then you can set the reference of the zero-point here it’s by default for -23 loudness unit as the color of the meter clicking on this box popup are color wheel that you can work for me where you can choose the color of the meter let’s see it in action it’s a simple meter with peak hold but the magic comes in when you enable the auto gain, enabling the auto gain makes so that this knob is automatically adjust to reach the level specified here so when I press play now the level would be adjusted and the signal will peak at the 0 loudness unit it works its magic and set the gain to -13 db so we can be sure that the level peak at zero or in this case -23 loudness unit for scale if we want to use it on sub mixes or single tracks we can now just copy the plugin put it in another track settings are kept we can trigger the gain for the group 1 and now activating the auto gain will activate it to all the group so everything will be recalculated once again so we have calculated gain too it’s for another track is different this is the same as before and we with a single click we can adjust the gain of the whole group of plugins this speed up the workflow dramatically as you can understand imagine having 10 12 or 24 tracks and adjusting the gain that just a button so this meter is available on you can go there download it and they let us know what you think about it we don’t provide the demo for this plugin because it is a simple meter but we provides a 15 days one hundred-percent money-back guarantee so you can try it and if you don’ like it will give you the money back thank you very much for watching

  1. Thank you/ Purchased. My understanding is LU are the modern standard for measuring loudness and are more accurate than VU – is this correct?

  2. So.. if I'm mixing and I get a good mix, and throw this on.. won't it mess up my mix? I don't see the benefit.. I still have to pre mix and make sure my channels aren't clipping just in general right?

  3. Thank you! I learned of this plugin at and bought it right away. I'm new at mixing and basic gain staging, so this plugin is extremely helpful.
