SAY THE SUSPECT WAS DRIVING DOWN
THIS STREET LOOKING FOR THE
METER READER AND WHEN HE FOU
HIM, HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND
STARTED ATTACKING.>>THE WATER METER READER IS IN
ABOUT 600 YARDS PER DAY AND HE
HAS NO IDEA WHERE THIS GUY CAME
FROM. PERRIS: DEPUTY CHIEF RUSS LANDON
WITH THE VILLAGE POLICE SAYS THE
METER READER HAD NO CLUE WHY HE
WAS CONFRONTED.>>HE SAID THE GUY GOT OUT OF A
GOLD TAHOE RAN UP TO HIM HAD A
GUN IN HIS HAND. PERRIS: LANDON TOLD ME THE
VICTIM TRIED ESCAPING INTO A
BACKYARD.>>HIS JACKET GOT HUNG UP ON A
GATE LATCH HE FELL DOWN THE GUY
, CAME UP AND REPEATEDLY PUNCHED
AND KICKED HIM AND SAID HE WAS
ANGRY AT HIM FOR BEING IN HIS
YARD. PERRIS: POLICE TELL ME AFTER THE
ASSAULT THE SUSPECT RAN BACK TO
HIS CAR AND DROVE OFF. THEY SAY THE SUSPECT HAD A GUN
IN HIS HAND BUT NEVER ACTUALLY
POINTED IT OR THREATENED THE
VICTIM WITH IT. NEIGHBORS IN SHOCK AFTER
LEARNING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED
>>PEOPLE ARE CRAZY THESE DAYS. SOUNDS LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO DO
HIS JOB AND PEOPLE CAN’T HAND
THEMSELVES NOWADAYS. PERRIS: POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT
WAS DRIVING A GOLD CHEVY TAHOE
WITH BOTH OF THE BACK WINDOWS
BROKEN OUT AND REPLACED WITH
