Today we do a tour through the Black Forest, the Kinzig Valley cycle path. Now we drive first from Kehl to Offenburg, that’s 15 km, then by train to Freudenstadt, and then we ride on the Kinzig Valley cycle path – the variant over Lossburg – back to Kehl. From Freudenstadt this is just over 90 km, plus the 15 km to Offenburg. Let’s see how it works.
See you later. The tour starts right now with the first climbs. We are still in Freudenstadt, but we are already going uphill. Now we have made the next few crisp climbs, and now it goes on here on a beautiful forest path relatively flat towards Lauterbad. What we went up earlier is down now. It’s a bit bumpy, Susanne will be “happy” on her Gekko withour suspension, she is shaken up pretty much. Here we have an absolutely new bike path after Loßburg, are now on the way to Schenkenzell. The bike path is just getting used to. As I praise the 26” wheels and the full suspension. So with the trike here that works quite well, but Susanne is shaken up pretty well. We were just wondering if we are right here, that looks more like a hiking trail. But well, just there was a bike path, so we are probably right. So, now we’ve just found out that we’ve got the track for mountain bikers. We took probably the wrong way in Loßburg. Yes, it is then a bit impassable upwards at the moment. From down there we come. Now we think about whether we go back a bit, but that is also a few miles, or if we just continue here. Probably the latter. We do not have internet reception either. Here it is really beautiful, a typical Black Forest area. It blooms, next to the brook, and good air. And the way is much more comfortable now than it was a few minutes ago. So, now we have a nice, cozy descent here with asphalt road. After the many gravel this is really a relaxation. It’s simply a beautiful area. Here, wood was won earlier and even today. Previously, the tree trunks down here on the Kinzig were tied together to rafts, and then brought in long lines down to Kehl. This is also called rafting path, there are from time to time such boards that explain the bit. In Gegenbach there is also a rafting museum, as we come through later, so in Gengenbach, not in the museum. This is great, here we went hiking a few years ago. This is also suitable as a cozy hiking trail. So far we drove the alternative route, and now we have come to the newer Kinzigtalradweg. Now it continues here. We have now left Alpirsbach, a very nice town. Definitely worth a visit as you are in the area. It has beautiful beer gardens and a very well-known beer, which is certainly one of the best in the area, so in Baden. And now it continues here. Now we had just a little bit on the federal road, but that was only 300 m, so no problem. Now we have a nice view again. So, now we leave the village Vorderlehengericht and continue towards Wolfach again along the main road. Great area here! So, now we continue.
Today we are lucky again with the weather. It is very pleasant, absolutely sunny, I guess maybe 25 ° C. Light headwind, really great bicycle weather. We are now between Hausach and Haslach. The valley is getting wider, there are fewer and fewer slopes. It is quite continuous downhill, great to drive, despite the headwind. Now we were just in Berghaupten with our trike dealer, Bike Sky. Susanne has a few defects on her trike, the control unit of her engine is broken off and the engine on the front goes up and down. So that they can order spare parts, there was even someone there shortly before 6 pm. And now it goes a bit different from the actual Kinzig Valley cycle path, but a nicer part left of the B33 by Elgersweier, then in Offenburg along lake Gifiz over and then down the Kinzig. So, now we have arrived at the end of our tour and now have a few miles to go home. The Kinzig cycle path is really highly recommended. At the beginning there are a few steep slopes, but of course correspondingly beautiful runs. The paths are gravelly sometimes, sometimes paved, so very mixed. It definitely makes fun. You come through many small villages, and appropriate catering, if you want to stop, so that you can make very different. You can also do it in different stages. If you want, you can always switch between Offenburg and Freudenstadt on the train. The track runs every now and then along the railway line, i.e. in every city you can board the train. Now we drive the last kilometers and then make ourselves comfortable. See you next time.
